What should you decide before booking?

Marina near Piazza Matteotti
Walk from the airport train and reach Castello, the port and buses easily. Avoid a room immediately over a late-night street.
Lower Stampace
A good compromise for Piazza Yenne, restaurants and walking. Check the exact incline because the district rises to the west.
Castello
Excellent for early lanes and sunset from the bastions. Book only when climbs are not a constraint.
Poetto
Better for four nights or more, or when the beach matters more than city dinners. Marina is usually more versatile for three days.
How do you reach central Cagliari from the airport?
Elmas Aeroporto station connects to the terminal through a covered walkway. Regional trains reach Cagliari Centrale at Piazza Matteotti in about five to seven minutes. The advertised average frequency is roughly twenty minutes and the current official single fare is €1.30.
Do not confuse Elmas Aeroporto with Cagliari Elmas station. Marina and lower Stampace are walkable from Centrale. Castello requires an uphill route or a targeted transfer with luggage.

Poetto is long enough for the experience to change by bus stop. Marina Piccola helps with Devil’s Saddle and Calamosca; farther sections provide more space and seasonal services. Check wind and sea state before choosing.
General Molentargius access is free. City-published hours vary by season, while official guided visits can enter selected protected areas and explain the saltworks. Binoculars improve an independent walk.

What should you eat in Cagliari?

October still gives Cagliari a strong balance between city and sea, although early and late October do not produce exactly the same trip.
