Menton Lemon Festival 2027: dates, where to stay & budget
Menton · Lemon Festival 2027 · 13–28 February

The Menton Lemon Festival runs from 13 to 28 February 2027, with the official theme “Douce France”. The dates are easy; choosing the right three or four nights is harder. The major events do not happen every day, so a small change to your stay can be the difference between seeing the citrus displays and getting the full mix of illuminated gardens, a parade and time to enjoy Menton itself.

For a first visit, we would book Friday 19 to Monday 22 February. You get the Gardens of Light on Friday evening, a completely flexible Saturday and the Golden Fruit Parade on Sunday. It feels like a proper Riviera break rather than a rushed event day, without automatically paying for a fourth night.

The balanced plan: 19–22 February 2027, stay in central Menton if the live rate is sensible, arrive by train and walk once you are there. Move to 18–22 February only if the Thursday night parade matters enough to justify another night.

Menton Lemon Festival 2027 programme

The core 2027 programme is already published by the organiser. You do not need a day-by-day copy of the official calendar to plan a trip; these five events are the ones that change which nights are worth booking.

Orchid & Winter Garden Show13–28 Feb€5A pleasant extra rather than a reason to extend the trip by itself.

The craft market also runs during the festival and is free to enter. Timings can change, so use the official 2027 programme as your final check before travelling.

Watch out for recycled information: the official 2027 theme is “Douce France”. Some search results still surface themes or timings from other editions.

The choice that changes the whole trip

Which weekend is best for the Menton Lemon Festival?

All three Sundays have a Golden Fruit Parade, but the weekends are not equally useful if you want several headline events without staying for a full week.

13–15 February

For a short visit

You catch the opening weekend and the Sunday 14 parade, but neither a night parade nor the Gardens of Light has happened yet.

Pick it if: two nights is your hard limit.

Our pick

19–22 February

Gardens of Light on Friday, a pressure-free Saturday in Menton and the Sunday parade. It is the cleanest three-night trip.

Pick it if: you want the best balance of time and events.

Closing weekend

25 February–1 March

Night parade Thursday, Gardens of Light Friday and the final Sunday parade. Very complete, but four nights makes more sense.

Pick it if: you want the festival’s closing stretch.

Want the night parade too? Use 18–22 February. You add Thursday evening without changing the rest of the itinerary.

Three nights, no sprinting

A practical 19–22 February itinerary

Friday 19

Arrive, settle in and see the gardens after dark

Arrive early enough to reach your hotel without turning the first evening into a race. Keep the evening for the Gardens of Light. The official festival page currently lists a 7 pm start; check the time printed on your ticket shortly before the trip.

Saturday 20

Old Menton, the market and the citrus exhibition

Saturday is deliberately flexible. Walk up through the old town towards Saint-Michel, come back down towards the covered market, then spend proper time with the citrus displays in Biovès Gardens. The Orchid Show is an easy addition if the weather turns.

Sunday 21

Give the Golden Fruit Parade the day it deserves

The parade starts at 2:30 pm, but do not plan a Monaco excursion in the morning and hope to slide back into Menton at the last minute. The organiser recommends arriving in Menton before 11 am on Sunday parade days. Have an early lunch and keep the afternoon clear.

Monday 22

Breakfast and departure

You do not need a fourth full sightseeing day. If your train or flight is late, use the spare time for the seafront or one last walk rather than adding another timed booking.

Book in the right order

2027 tickets: how much does the festival itself cost?

For the 19–22 February trip, the key events cost €44 per adult with a standing parade ticket: €12 for the citrus exhibition, €16 for the Gardens of Light and €16 for the Sunday parade. Choose a seated grandstand place for the parade and the total becomes €58.

For 18–22 February, the official €37 Thursday-night package combines a seated night-parade ticket with entry to the citrus exhibition. Add Friday’s Gardens of Light and Sunday’s parade and the total is €69 with a standing Sunday ticket or €83 seated. The Orchid Show adds €5.

Booking order: first check that the event tickets you care about are available, then secure accommodation — ideally with sensible cancellation terms. The official ticketing system also has a secure resale platform. A cheap room is not much of a win if your must-see parade is sold out.

The organiser also states that entry is not possible more than 15 minutes after a parade starts. With security checks and crowds, treating the start time as your arrival time is a bad plan.

Location can be worth more than a small saving

Where to stay for the Menton Lemon Festival

If the festival is the main reason for your trip, start with central Menton around Biovès Gardens and the railway station. You can walk back to your room during the day, you are already in town on Sunday morning and you do not have to build an evening around the last train. The organiser describes Menton station as less than 200 metres from the event entrance.

Festival hotel prices are dynamic. Several local accommodation pages explicitly exclude major-event dates from their normal published ranges, so do not turn an off-season “from” price into a February 2027 budget.

Hotel Chambord

Location

The obvious choice if you want to minimise walking: the hotel sits opposite Biovès Gardens, and many rooms overlook the gardens. Compare it first, but do not pay any price just for the address — that same location can make it especially sought-after during the festival.

ibis Styles Menton Centre

Practical

A straightforward central base, a short walk from the station and close to the pedestrian streets. It makes sense when you want a functional hotel with breakfast rather than paying for resort-style facilities you will barely use.

Hotel de Londres

Character

A better fit for couples who want the hotel to have some personality: Belle Époque character, a garden and the beach only a short distance away. It is still in central Menton, so you do not trade charm for awkward festival logistics.

Riva Art & Spa

Comfort

Keep this one for a trip where the hotel matters too: seafront setting and still close enough to central Menton to be practical. We would not label it the default budget choice; it becomes attractive when the premium over simpler central hotels is modest.

What about Carnolès and Roquebrune-Cap-Martin?

Treat them as a fallback, not a guaranteed money-saving trick. The hotel supply is smaller and some properties are firmly mid-range or upscale. But when central Menton is expensive or sold out, staying near Carnolès station is genuinely practical: regional trains take only a few minutes to Menton. Check the return timetable for your evening before you book.

A car creates more problems than it solves

How to get to Menton from Nice and Nice Airport

The train is the natural choice during the festival. The organiser explicitly encourages public transport, and Menton railway station is less than 200 metres from the event entrance.

From Nice Côte d’Azur Airport, head to Nice Saint-Augustin station. The airport describes a direct connection via the Grand Arénas area, with free tram travel between the terminals and Grand Arénas and a dedicated walk of roughly seven minutes from Terminal 1. Regional trains on the Cannes–Nice–Monaco–Menton corridor serve Saint-Augustin, so you do not always need to detour through Nice-Ville.

As a current benchmark, TER Sud lists Nice-Ville to Menton at about 40 minutes on average, with more than 60 return services a day and a full one-way fare of €7.70. Those are present-day reference figures, not a promise for February 2027: check the timetable and fare for your actual travel date.

On Sundays: the organiser recommends being in Menton before 11 am. On Thursday night-parade days: before 6 pm. Staying in Menton removes most of that timing pressure.

Add the costs you can actually verify

How much should you budget for the Menton Lemon Festival?

A single “total trip cost” would be false precision. Hotel rates during a parade weekend can move sharply, and the cost of reaching the Riviera is completely different from London, Manchester, Paris or Lyon. It is more useful to separate fixed festival costs from live travel prices.

The food range uses roughly €35–55 per person per day, plus a small local-transport allowance. A bakery-and-market traveller can spend less; two full restaurant meals every day will push the number higher.

For a realistic per-person total when travelling as a couple: take the “excluding hotel” budget, add half the total room price, then add your return flight or train. That is much more useful than a headline number published months before the event.

Two major Riviera events on the same dates

Should you combine the Lemon Festival with Nice Carnival?

Yes, if you have four to six days. Nice Carnival 2027 is scheduled for 9–28 February, so it overlaps the entire Lemon Festival. In that case, two nights in Nice followed by three nights in Menton usually makes more sense than using Nice as a base for repeated day trips.

Our two-day Nice itinerary gives you a simple framework for the old town, seafront and hotel areas. If you are comparing different February events rather than building a Riviera trip, our Venice Carnival 2027 guide is a useful alternative.

Do not squeeze Menton into a spare gap between two Nice events. The train is easy, but parade days concentrate large crowds. If the Lemon Festival matters to you, one or more nights in Menton makes the trip noticeably calmer.

Small choices that prevent avoidable hassle

Practical tips before you book

  • Book the events that matter first, especially if you want a seated grandstand place.
  • Do not judge a hotel only by its nightly rate. Add train fares, late-evening logistics and the time you lose commuting.
  • Bring comfortable shoes. Station, gardens, old town and seafront fit together well on foot, but you will walk.
  • Pack a warm layer and rain protection. February on the Riviera can feel mild in the sun and quite cool after dark.
  • Recheck official times a few days before travel. A live festival can still adjust timings or access conditions.
Frequently asked questions

Menton Lemon Festival 2027 FAQ

How much are Menton Lemon Festival tickets?

There is no single festival pass. Published 2027 adult prices include €16 standing or €30 seated for a parade, €12 for the citrus exhibition, €16 for the Gardens of Light and €5 for the Orchid & Winter Garden Show.

Is the Menton Lemon Festival free?

You can enjoy some of the atmosphere in town and enter the craft market for free, but the main parades, citrus exhibition, Gardens of Light and Orchid Show each have their own ticket.

What actually happens at the Menton Lemon Festival?

The headline attractions are giant citrus structures in Biovès Gardens, daytime and night parades with citrus-covered floats, illuminated evening garden sessions, plus the craft market and Orchid & Winter Garden Show.

How many days do you need in Menton for the festival?

Two nights are enough for the exhibition and one parade. Three nights make a much more balanced first visit. Four nights are worthwhile if you specifically want to include a Thursday night parade.

How do you get from Nice Airport to the Menton Lemon Festival?

Use Nice Saint-Augustin station by the airport, then take a regional train on the Monaco/Menton corridor. Once in Menton, the railway station is less than 200 metres from the event entrance according to the organiser.

Our pick

Three nights are enough to make the trip worthwhile

You do not need a week on the French Riviera to enjoy the Lemon Festival properly. For a first visit, 19–22 February 2027 combines enough headline events to justify the journey while leaving a full day for Menton. Secure the events you would hate to miss, compare central hotels next, and only move outside Menton when the price difference is genuinely worth the commute.
