Nice Carnival 2027: Dates, Tickets, Where to Stay & Budget
Nice in February · Carnival and a car-free city break

Nice Carnival gives a winter city break something to revolve around: illuminated floats after dark, a morning in the old-town lanes, then a walk beside the bay. Flowers, colourful façades and the seafront make the trip more than an afternoon in a grandstand.

Nice Carnival 2027 runs from 9 to 28 February, with the theme “Vive l’Amour”. For a first visit, choose the performance you most want to see and leave room to enjoy Nice itself. Three nights give you two full days; two nights can work if one Carnival session is the main reason for coming.

Your hotel matters more here than a long list of excursions. Being able to drop your bags, rest before the performance and walk back afterwards makes the trip easier to enjoy. For two adults sharing a room, the three-night examples below come to around €325–445 per person on the ground, excluding Carnival admission and travel to Nice.

Illuminated parade or Battle of Flowers: two different Carnival experiences

The illuminated parade, for big floats and an evening atmosphere

If your idea of Carnival is lights, music and oversized characters, start with the illuminated parade. The floats take on a different presence after dark, making the performance the occasion around which to arrange your day.

This would be our first choice for an introduction focused on atmosphere. Keep the afternoon light enough to arrive with some energy left. A warm layer is useful in February: part of the evening involves waiting and watching, rather than staying warm by walking.

The Battle of Flowers, for the floral displays and flowers thrown to the crowd

The Battle of Flowers shows another side of Nice, with floats dressed in floral arrangements and flowers thrown towards spectators. Choose it if that tradition appeals more than the large characters of the Carnival parade. Being in the audience does not guarantee that you will take home a bouquet.

If the timetable and your budget allow, pairing a Battle of Flowers with an illuminated parade gives you two distinct experiences. For a shorter trip, one well-chosen performance and a proper day in Nice can be just as satisfying. A daytime Carnival parade is another option if you want to see the floats without planning an evening outing.

Nice Carnival 2027 dates and tickets: what you can plan now

9–28 February 2027. The overall dates and theme have been announced. The tourist office still lists ticket prices as unannounced, and the detailed session timetable remains to be confirmed. The Carnival date range does not mean there is a major parade every day.

Choose your nights around the official Nice Carnival programme and ticket office. An evening performance may be a good reason to stay overnight afterwards; arriving late on the same day gives you much less room to settle in. While your main session remains open, a cancellable room keeps the trip easier to adjust.

Standing admission or a grandstand seat?

A grandstand can justify its extra cost if you prefer to watch seated, particularly after a day of sightseeing. Standing admission suits visitors who prioritise price and are comfortable with waiting. Compare the area, advertised view and entrance for your selected session: a seat alone does not tell you everything about the experience.

Children’s categories, accessibility arrangements and any free-entry offers depend on the 2027 rules. Wearing a costume, or having qualified for free admission in an earlier year, is not a ticket for the next edition. Before paying, check postponement and re-entry terms if you expect to leave the performance area.

Where to stay: a hotel you can return to between sightseeing and Carnival

For this trip, we would start with Jean-Médecin and the streets between Nice-Ville station and the centre. You can arrive without a car, go out for dinner and return to your room before the performance. Use the actual entrance on your ticket to check the walking route.

Carré d’Or is worth considering if being near the seafront is part of the pleasure. Old Nice puts restaurants and narrow lanes close by, but stairs, soundproofing and access with luggage deserve attention. A hotel near Libération may offer a saving if the tram journey home fits your evening.

ibis Styles Nice Centre Gare: for rail arrivals and an easy breakfast before heading out

At 3–5 Avenue Durante, ibis Styles Nice Centre Gare combines two useful features: proximity to Nice-Ville and breakfast included in the example offers. If Menton takes a day of your trip, being on this side of the centre also makes the start towards the station straightforward.

The Standard double in the examples is 18 m². We would favour it if you want a functional room and an uncomplicated morning, leaving most of the day for Nice. The property has a breakfast buffet and a courtyard terrace; in February, the terrace is a possible extra rather than a reason to book.

The compromise: you are choosing convenience over a seafront setting or an address within the old-town lanes. Accor lists rooms adapted for guests with reduced mobility; confirm the specific room and arrangements you need.

Hôtel Florence Nice: for Jean-Médecin and the freedom to have breakfast out

The three-star Hôtel Florence Nice, at 3 Rue Paul Déroulède, is on a pedestrian street at the corner of Jean-Médecin. Its appeal here is practical: central shops and restaurants are within walking reach, and you can return to the hotel before heading out again.

A room-only rate suits mornings spent in a café, while the hotel buffet is an option if you would rather have breakfast on site. Free luggage storage can help on departure day, letting you take a final walk after checking out.

The compromise: the Classic double in the example is just 13 m², compared with the ibis Styles Standard’s 18 m². There are also around twelve steps up to reception; the lift starts from that level, and the hotel states that it has no room adapted for guests with reduced mobility.

How would we choose between them? In the first example with breakfast, the difference is only about €14 for two people across three nights. We would choose ibis Styles for the station and larger Standard room, or Florence for Jean-Médecin and the room-only option. Such a small price gap should not outweigh the location you prefer.

Three nights in Nice: a performance, the old town and time beside the bay

This plan gives Carnival a place without reducing Nice to the backdrop between ticketed sessions. Put your confirmed performance in the right day, then move the walks around it.

On arrival: Place Masséna, the first old-town lanes and the seafront

After leaving your bags, head towards Place Masséna. Continue into Old Nice and Cours Saleya, then reach Quai des États-Unis. This first loop takes you from the shopping streets to the older façades and the bay, without a major sightseeing commitment after the journey.

For dinner, stay in the area where you feel like stopping. Longer detours can wait until tomorrow; part of the pleasure is being able to get back easily. If your Carnival performance falls on arrival day, shorten the walk rather than trying to fit in both full programmes.

First full day: Cours Saleya, Place Rossetti and your performance

Start at Cours Saleya in the morning, when the market brings the neighbourhood to life. On Mondays, antiques dealers replace the flower market, so use another morning for the flower stalls. Continue to Place Rossetti and the nearby streets; Rue Droite makes a natural extension.

Have lunch in Old Nice, then choose between more wandering and a break at the hotel. Before an evening parade, resting can make the night more enjoyable. For a Battle of Flowers, arrange the market and lunch around your booked session instead.

A guide, if you want more of Nice’s history

The Old Nice and Castle Hill Treasures walking tour, run by Nice Creative Tours, can replace the independent walk. Allow about three hours, meeting near Castel Plage at 8 Quai des États-Unis. English and French are among the languages offered, depending on the departure.

Its value is the explanation behind the squares, streets and viewpoint, rather than simply passing through them. Give it half a day if that interests you. If Menton already fills your other day, we would keep the Nice walk shorter and independent instead. Check the listing for February departures and prices; this extra is outside the budget below.

Second full day: Castle Hill or more Carnival

In good weather, climb Castle Hill for the old-town rooftops and the curve of the bay. The name can be misleading: the draw is the park, waterfall and viewpoints, rather than a furnished castle to tour. Park admission is free, with opening hours listed as 8:30 am–6 pm for winter 2026–2027. Allow time for the climb and choose access that suits your mobility.

Continue towards Rauba-Capeu or the port according to how far you want to walk. Shorten the outing if you have booked a second performance. You could use this day for Menton, but that means giving up part of Nice: the alternative deserves a full day.

If it rains: Palais Lascaris, at 15 Rue Droite, keeps you in Old Nice while taking you inside a Baroque palace with a collection of historic musical instruments. Adult admission currently costs €5, an extra for the trip budget. The museum is closed on Tuesdays. The museum can replace the viewpoint without sending you across the city.

Before departure: one last walk without the luggage

With a late departure, leave your bags at the hotel if the service allows, then pick a café or a short seafront walk. You do not need another neighbourhood for the final morning. For a two-night trip, keep the arrival, performance and Old Nice visit; Menton is better left for another occasion.

How much should you budget for three nights?

For two adults sharing a central room with breakfast, allow around €325–445 per person on the ground, before Carnival tickets and travel to Nice. That range reflects the hotel examples below, straightforward meals and a buffer for small expenses.

CostAllowance per person
Three nights, breakfast and tourist taxAbout €195–245
Meals and coffee breaks€90–140
Airport return by tram€10
Other local journeys€10–20
Small-expense buffer€20–30
On-the-ground total excluding performancesAbout €325–445

The food allowance covers three dinners, two or three lunches depending on your travel times, and a few breaks. Breakfast is already counted in the room. Arriving by train removes the airport transfer; if you walk everywhere, some of the local transport allowance will remain unspent.

Two example stays to put room prices in context

For 12–15 February, ibis Styles comes to about €387 for the room across three nights, with breakfast and taxes; Florence is about €401 with breakfast and tourist tax. Florence’s room-only Classic is about €350 for two, but breakfasts taken elsewhere then belong in your budget.

For 19–22 February, the same ibis Styles Standard is about €467 for two: €40 more per person than the first stay. Florence’s offer with breakfast is about €485, but for a larger Deluxe room. That difference therefore reflects more than the change of dates.

These are public rates from the hotels’ official websites for two adults and three nights. Prices change, and Booking may offer different rooms or terms. The dates are budget examples, rather than recommended Carnival weekends; compare the final total and conditions of your chosen offer.

For more options, compare Nice hotels for 12–15 February with hotels available for 19–22 February. Choose your nights around the performance, then weigh up the location and total price of each stay.

Add Carnival admission once the 2027 price list is published, your return journey to Nice, and any guided tour or Menton day trip you choose. For a non-refundable room, wait until the performance and transport are fixed.

The Menton alternative: a day at the Lemon Festival

If citrus displays appeal as much as Nice’s floats, the Menton Lemon Festival runs from 13 to 28 February 2027. Golden Fruit Parades are scheduled for Sundays 14, 21 and 28 at 2:30 pm. You can replace a day in Nice with a Sunday in Menton.

From Nice-Ville, TER trains currently take about 40 minutes, with a full fare of €7.70 each way. Return rail travel and an adult parade ticket come to roughly €32 standing or €46 with a grandstand seat, before food and other visits. The ticket alone costs €16 standing or €30 seated.

Go in the morning: the organiser recommends arriving before 11 am on parade Sundays. That gives you time for Menton before the event, rather than rushing from the platform to the entrance. The illuminated gardens, scheduled on dates including Friday 19, offer another kind of outing, with a later return to arrange.

On a three-night trip, we would choose just one day in Menton. If its festival becomes the main reason for travelling, staying there may be more enjoyable. Our Menton Lemon Festival guide covers tickets, trip lengths and accommodation choices.

Arrive without a car and get back easily after Carnival

Nice-Ville station puts you straight into the city. On a three-night break, that means taking the luggage directly to your hotel and starting the visit without an airport transfer. Trains to Menton leave from the same station.

From the airport, tram line 2 reaches Jean-Médecin. The Lignes d’Azur airport return ticket currently costs €10. Add baggage, transfers and timings when comparing a flight with rail; our flight comparison tool can help compare departures from your starting point.

The centre suits this itinerary on foot. On performance evenings, event perimeters and traffic changes can affect entrances and tram services: follow the information for your session and Lignes d’Azur announcements. For an early departure or late arrival, check transfer hours too; the tram does not run around the clock.

A rental car offers no clear advantage for this itinerary. Save it for a trip that actually includes stops in the hinterland. For Nice and a day in Menton, walking, tram and rail fit the programme.

The last questions before booking

How many nights do you need for Nice Carnival?

Two nights work for one performance and the central sights. Three give two full days, for more of Nice or a day in Menton. Choose the nights around the session you want.

Can you see Carnival for free?

Walking around Nice is free, but admission to the performance areas depends on 2027 tickets and rules. Any free-entry offers or costume arrangements remain to be confirmed by the organiser.

Florence or ibis Styles Centre Gare: which would you choose?

We favour ibis Styles for rail access, included breakfast and the larger Standard room. Florence suits Jean-Médecin and a room-only stay. Its entrance steps and lack of an adapted room also matter to the choice.

What is the budget including Carnival tickets?

The three-night examples come to about €325–445 per person on the ground, excluding performances and travel to Nice. Admission can be added when 2027 prices are announced. Menton and paid visits cost extra if you choose them.

Can you fit Nice and Menton into one weekend?

Yes, with three nights and a full day for Menton. It is a choice between more of Nice and two festivals in one trip. Avoid booking performances in both cities on the same afternoon.

Our choice for a first Nice Carnival trip

We would build the trip around an illuminated parade, a morning in Old Nice and a central hotel to return to before the evening. A Battle of Flowers complements that introduction if the timetable and budget allow. Menton is an alternative, rather than an essential stop.

For accommodation, choose the location and room that suit you first; a small difference in price should not decide the trip for you. If you are still choosing a Carnival, our European Carnival comparison helps compare atmospheres, while the Venice Carnival guide prepares a different kind of break.
