Tenerife Carnival 2027: Dates, Santa Cruz, Where to Stay & Budget

At a glance: Santa Cruz street celebrations are scheduled for 19–28 February 2027. The main Coso parade is Tuesday 23 February at 4 pm. Stay 21–24 February to catch it; budget about €530–610 per person before flights for two people sharing a room.
Carnival takes over the streets and main avenues of Santa Cruz. Friday night’s Cabalgata opens the celebrations; on Saturday, comparsas parade to the beat of the drums, followed by daytime festivities and Tuesday’s main Coso. In 2027, street celebrations begin on 19 February, two weeks later than usual.
Three nights, 21–24 February, give you Sunday’s daytime Carnival, Monday’s Dragnaval and Tuesday’s Coso. The opening weekend, 19–22 February, has its own appeal: the Cabalgata, Saturday’s comparsas and the first daytime celebrations, without the main parade.
For two people sharing a room, allow about €530–610 per person before flights for these three nights, depending on meals and local transport. Staying within walking distance makes the journey back after an evening parade simpler; ask for a courtyard-facing room if you are a light sleeper.

Tenerife Carnival 2027 dates in Santa Cruz
19–28 February 2027: the announced period for the street celebrations. Competitions and galas start earlier; the full calendar runs from 22 January to 28 February. The theme is “Roma Eterna: El Imperio del Carnaval”.
Tenerife Carnival is not a single island-wide event. Puerto de la Cruz and other towns have their own celebrations and dates. The schedule below is for the capital. Check the official Tenerife Carnival programme before travelling for any timing or access updates.

The Queen Gala is scheduled for 17 February at 9:30 pm at Recinto Ferial. Indoor galas and reserved seating may require tickets; 2027 prices and sale details still need to be confirmed by the organisers. Street parades use the city’s avenues and squares, so check the official access map for any designated viewing areas.
The official programme does not give a date for the Burial of the Sardine. Some secondary calendars give different dates, so wait for an official announcement before planning a night around it.
Which Carnival dates should you choose?
19–22 February is for the opening weekend: Friday’s Cabalgata, Saturday’s comparsas and the first daytime Carnival on Sunday. It is a good way to catch the start of the celebrations, though it does not include Tuesday’s main Coso. Compare places to stay in Santa Cruz for these dates.
21–24 February is the stay to choose if the main parade is your priority. Sunday and Monday give you time to settle in before Tuesday’s Coso at 4 pm. Arrive early enough on Sunday to enjoy the daytime Carnival; with a late flight, most of that first day would go on getting to the hotel.
19–24 February lets you connect the opening parade with the Coso, at the cost of two extra nights. The final weekend, 26 February–1 March, suits visitors who want Piñata, the 27 February daytime event and the closing celebrations on the 28th.

Where to stay: choose around your evenings
Historic centre and El Toscal: walk back after the parade
Stay around Candelaria, El Toscal or the central shopping streets and you can reach the events on foot, then walk back at the end of the night. It is a handy base for three Carnival nights. Some squares host concerts and crowds, so ask for a courtyard-facing room or one away from the street if you are a light sleeper.
Around García Sanabria: a little farther from the stages
Around García Sanabria park, you remain in the city but sit farther from the central stages. Expect a longer walk after the festivities; how quiet it feels will depend on the exact street and room, so check the location before booking.
Near the Intercambiador and Tres de Mayo: easier transfers
This side of town works well for buses and for reaching the Palmetum or Auditorio. It is less immediate for walking back from an evening in the historic centre. Choose it if your hotel is close to the tram or your days mix Carnival with island sightseeing.
| Hotel · 21–24 February, 2 adults | Room, rate and terms | Why choose it |
|---|---|---|
| Hotel Príncipe Paz | Economy Double, 18 m², courtyard view; €654 for 3 nights, with 7% tax added by the offer; non-refundable. Breakfast costs extra. | Central location and shorter walks back after the Coso and evening events. Ask for a courtyard-facing room; nearby Plaza Príncipe hosts events. |
| Eurostars Atlántida | Superior Double, 25 m²; €664 for 3 nights, with 7% tax added by the offer; free cancellation until 14 February, with no prepayment according to the displayed terms. | A larger room and more flexible booking, near the commercial area and transport. Expect a longer walk to the central stages. |
With the extra 7% added, that works out at about €700 per room at Príncipe Paz (€350 each) and €710 at Atlántida (€355 each). The whole-stay gap is only about €10, so location, room size and cancellation terms matter more than a major price difference. The room categories and conditions differ; rates and availability can change.
These examples are for two adults and three nights; rates were checked on 6 October 2026. They can change, so confirm the terms and tax-inclusive total before paying.
These two hotels show two ways to stay in the centre; other Santa Cruz stays for these three nights may suit you better if you have a different budget or would rather be on a quieter street. For a different island base, our winter Canary Islands comparison explains why staying in southern Tenerife feels very different from basing yourself in the capital.
Three nights in Santa Cruz around the main parade
Sunday 21 February: arrive in the morning or early afternoon to catch the daytime Carnival. Drop your bags, take a first walk around the centre and leave the evening free to recover from the journey.
Monday 22 February: visit the Palmetum, the botanical garden south of the centre, then take a break before Dragnaval at 8 pm. The current adult non-resident ticket price is €6; published opening hours are 10 am–6 pm, last entry at 5 pm. If you would like to fit in this quieter break, the Palmetum entry ticket can be cancelled up to 24 hours beforehand. Check opening details closer to your visit.

Tuesday 23 February: keep the morning easy, have an early lunch and reach the Coso route before 4 pm so you have time to find a spot. After the parade, stay in the centre: the streets and squares carry the celebration into the evening.
Wednesday 24 February: departure day. If you are flying from Tenerife South, do not build a tight airport transfer after a late Carnival night.
Extend your stay: Teide and northern Tenerife
Keep Wednesday after the Coso free to recover. Add the nights of 24 and 25 February, then use Thursday 25 for a day trip from Santa Cruz to Teide National Park, Garachico, Icod de los Vinos and La Laguna. This Teide day trip from Santa Cruz lasts 7–8 hours, with transport from Santa Cruz and the return included. GetYourGuide lists a 4.9/5 rating and free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure. Check February 2027 departures, the live price and what is included before booking. Bring a warm layer for the high altitude.
How much should three nights cost?
This estimate is for two adults sharing one room, 21–24 February, excluding flights and any paid gala ticket. Hotel figures come from the offers compared above; meals, transport and extras are planning allowances, not guaranteed quotes.
| Per person | Príncipe Paz | Atlántida |
|---|---|---|
| Room, calculated with tax | ~€350 | ~€355 |
| Meals and coffees, 4 days | €120–160 | €120–160 |
| Transfers and local transport | €20–35 | €20–35 |
| Palmetum | €6 | €6 |
| Extras and buffer | €30–50 | €30–50 |
| Estimated total, before flights | €526–601 | €531–606 |
As a working budget, allow about €530–610 per person before flights. The Teide day trip is a separate extension and is not included in that total; add its live price and your lunch. A hotel breakfast, taxis, several sit-down meals or a paid gala will also increase the total. Add flights after you have chosen dates, including baggage and the transfer from whichever Tenerife airport you use.
Getting to Santa Cruz from Tenerife North or South
From Tenerife North (TFN), TITSA bus 20 connects the airport with Santa Cruz. Aena currently lists €2.65 one way as an indicative fare; check the price again for February 2027. This is the simplest arrival for a city stay.
From Tenerife South (TFS), bus 10 serves Santa Cruz; TITSA lists around 55 minutes for the normal journey. Traffic and Carnival road closures can affect the actual trip. Night bus 711 also runs, but check the day’s timetable instead of assuming it will fit every parade finish.
A car adds little for four days based in Santa Cruz. If you add La Laguna, tram line 1 connects the two cities; Metrotenerife currently lists a single fare at €1.35 by card or €1.10 by mobile. Special late services for Carnival 2027 have not yet been announced.
Compare departure options with our flight search, and check whether your flight lands at TFN or TFS before choosing a hotel. For a longer winter trip, our Tenerife winter guide covers the island beyond Santa Cruz.
Practical Tenerife Carnival questions
When is Tenerife Carnival 2027?The full event calendar runs from 22 January to 28 February. Street celebrations in Santa Cruz are scheduled for 19–28 February. The main Coso parade is on Tuesday 23 February at 4 pm.
Do you need a ticket to watch the parades? The street parades are the best option if you do not want to buy a ticket. Indoor galas and some reserved seats may be ticketed; check 2027 prices and sales with the organiser.
Where should you stay to walk back after Carnival? The historic centre and El Toscal keep walks shorter. For less activity outside your window, look towards García Sanabria and request a courtyard-facing room, while remembering that quiet cannot be guaranteed during Carnival.
Can you do Tenerife Carnival without a car?Yes, for a stay focused on Santa Cruz: buses serve both airports, the centre is walkable and the tram goes to La Laguna. For mountain walks or several towns, allow more time and choose transport for those extra plans.
Will the Burial of the Sardine take place on 24 February? The published 2027 programme does not confirm that date. Wait for an official announcement before booking a night around the event.
Our recommendation for a first visit
Three nights, 21–24 February, make a good base for seeing the Coso without rushing. Príncipe Paz puts the celebrations within walking distance; Atlántida has a larger room and more flexible cancellation for a similar total in the offers checked. Choose according to what matters more to you: being close to the parades or having a little more distance from the evening crowds.
Keep the morning after the Coso quiet. For landscapes, beaches or La Laguna, continue with our Tenerife winter guide, or compare Tenerife with Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura if your island is not fixed yet.
