Use a radius that keeps both the Citadel and terminal walkable. A side street protects sleep better than a room directly on a main square.
Xlendi
Check the true view, terrace noise and climb to the bus stop. Hillside addresses are not equally convenient with luggage.
Marsalforn
Ask the dive centre whether accommodation transfer is included. Staying near the waterfront reduces early taxi dependence.
Nadur or Qala
Strong for a quiet vehicle-based trip. Without a car, verify final buses and the exact village-centre distance.

How do you reach Gozo from Malta?
Gozo Channel links Ċirkewwa in northern Malta with Mġarr. The crossing takes about twenty-five minutes and operates year-round. The standard foot-passenger return fare is €4.65; the standard vehicle plus driver fare is €15.70. Standard payment is commonly made on the Gozo return side, but check the current procedure and schedule.
From the airport or Valletta, first reach Ċirkewwa by bus, taxi or car. The high-speed Valletta–Gozo service can be more direct for some Malta-based itineraries. Compare the complete door-to-door trip rather than minutes on the water.
From the airport
Allow substantial time for landing, the road journey and ferry. A very late flight can justify one Malta night.
At Mġarr
Route 301 reaches Victoria roughly every thirty minutes. A taxi is useful for a coastal room late at night.
On the return
Do not choose the latest ferry theoretically compatible with the flight. Add the Malta road journey and airport margin.
Do you need a car in Gozo?
Gozo has fifteen bus routes. Most run about hourly, while route 301 between Victoria and Mġarr ferry terminal runs approximately every thirty minutes. In summer 2026, a daytime ticket paid directly costs €2.50 and allows transfers for two hours. The current 12 Single Day Journeys card is €19.
Buses work for one main destination per half-day. They become frustrating when trying to combine San Blas, Ramla, Wied il-Għasri and Dwejra. A twenty-four-hour car is the best compromise. Driving is on the left, village roads are narrow and cove parking fills quickly.

Do not rent a quad without experience. Narrow roads, heat and traffic do not automatically make it a safe activity. A guided product or small car is more coherent for many travellers.

Victoria, Citadel and Ġgantija Temples
The €13 Discover Gozo Combo can be stronger when visiting Ġgantija, Ta’ Kola and paid Citadel sites. It is valid for one month. Note that the Gozo Museum of Archaeology closes for redevelopment from 13 April 2026, so confirm what is open.
Dwejra, Inland Sea and an evening in Xlendi
Dwejra is not a conventional beach. Wind, swell and rock access require local judgement. Do not add Ramla or San Blas to the same day.
Ramla Bay, Marsalforn and a diving option
Ramla is the easiest true sand morning. San Blas is smaller and physically harder. Mġarr ix-Xini and Hondoq become stronger with a car, taxi or organised activity.

Is Gozo suitable for beginner scuba diving?
Gozo offers shore and boat dives across several experience levels. A try dive or Discover Scuba experience must be organised with a professional centre after a medical questionnaire and briefing. Site, depth and conditions must match the participant’s real level.
On a three-day trip, use one half or full day for diving. Do not combine a first dive, Dwejra, Ramla and Comino without recovery time. Certified divers also need to respect the recommended interval before flying.

Should you add Comino and the Blue Lagoon?
Comino fits when boats, caves and clear water matter more than Ġgantija, Dwejra or Ramla. From Gozo, a three-to-four-hour product can be coherent. It should replace part of day three or a full day.
Landing at the Blue Lagoon now requires a free QR-code pass for an official time slot. It does not replace the boat ticket and can be booked up to two months ahead, subject to availability. A cruise that does not land may operate differently, so check the exact itinerary.
Our verdict: keep all three days on Gozo for a first cultural-and-coastal trip. Replace Ramla–Marsalforn with Comino only when Blue Lagoon is a top priority.
