Two public options are especially useful. The airport train reaches Gara de Nord, where you can continue by metro or surface transport. It is often the most predictable choice when road traffic is heavy. Bus 100 connects the airport with central Bucharest, although travel time depends more heavily on traffic and temporary diversions.

Revolution Square, the Athenaeum and a more everyday Bucharest

Morning: walk north along Calea Victoriei

Follow Calea Victoriei towards Revolution Square. The route links Belle Époque architecture, royal history and the sites associated with December 1989. A guided walk adds genuine value here because otherwise several buildings remain visually impressive but historically disconnected.

Continue to the Romanian Athenaeum. Check whether public access is available or limited by an event. Then choose between the National Museum of Art and a slower café stop around Amzei.

Afternoon: Cișmigiu or the Village Museum

For the most compact itinerary, return towards Cișmigiu Gardens and keep the final hours flexible. The open-air Village Museum is worthwhile, but it sits farther north and requires additional transport. Choose it because rural architecture interests you, not simply to add another attraction.

Avoid this combination: Therme București, the Village Museum, a large central museum and a trip outside the city in the same weekend. Each option can be good; the accumulation removes the pleasure from the itinerary.
